3 suspects were arrested after they attempted to pull of a brazen, broad daylight, smash and grab robbery at a jewelry store in Yonkers, New York on Friday afternoon. A CBS-2 New York report said, three of the four suspects were caught. The report also said all four suspects were from the Bronx, N.Y.
The thieves allegedly used a crowbar and sledgehammer to break the display window outside of the store, and grab over $100,000 worth of gold rings, chains, and diamond rings, according to the unidentified store’s owner.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the window, store employees attempted to keep the suspects away from the glass by “swatting at them” with objects. The employees then went outside to face the robbers. The suspects were already on the way to their getaway car and about to make their exit. One of the employees grabbed the sledgehammer that was left on the ground by the thieves, and pounded on the car as the robbers fled.
The suspects were reportedly tracked down by police in the Park Hill neighborhood. The getaway car crashed, and the occupants fled. Three were eventually captured. A fourth is reportedly still on the lam. NYPD said they are checking other smash-and-grab jewelry store robberies in New York to see if they may have been done by the same crew, according to the report.
