Police in Chicago said five people were standing near the intersection of 48th & Ada Streets in Chicago’s Southside, “Back Of The Yards” neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. According to a report from CBS-Chicago, a stolen red Mazda pulled up and an unknown amount of occupants exited the vehicle armed with guns, and shot all five people.
The shooting is reportedly the latest episode in a war between two rival gangs in the area.
A 19-year old was reportedly shot in the left side of his body. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A 16-year old was reportedly shot in the left shoulder, face, arm, and ankle. The juvenile was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was last reported to be in critical condition.
An 18-year old man was shot in the left knee and right hip. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was last reported to be in critical condition.
Another 16-year old reportedly suffered a graze wound to the right ankle. He refused medical attention.
A second 18-year old man was shot in the right leg. He was taken to U of C Medical Center. He was last reported to be in good condition.
Arriving officers who reportedly attempted to perform “lifesaving” measures on the victims, were welcomed by a hostile crowd who began fighting with police, according to the report.
20-year old Mario Sanders was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery on a police officer. Sanders was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of resisting police. Sanders is alleged to have shoved an off-duty officer to the ground, and punched another in the face.
42-year old Mitchell Rosas, who reportedly lives on the block of the shooting, was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting police, after he attempted to prevent arriving officers from giving medical attention to the shooting victims.
The Mazda used by the shooters was recovered by police after a short high-speed chase and eventual crash. The occupants of the car managed to evade police on foot, after crashing the stolen car into a fence at 48th & Marshfield Avenue. A S.W.A.T team was called in to assists in the search for the suspects, but police were still not able to locate the suspects.
