Philadelphia Police said a 55-year old security guard at a shopping center, is recovering this morning, after being shot during a shootout in the Cobbs Creek section of the city last night. A report from 6 ABC ACTION NEWS said, the incident happened at 58th Street & Baltimore Avenue at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The security guard was reportedly shot once in the abdomen, once in the leg, and once in the back. Police said the incident began when the security guard, in full uniform and armed, was approached by three men while inside of Andy’s Beer. Police said one of the men was brandishing a firearm as they approached.
The security pulled out his gun as the males approached, and a shootout ensued, according to police. The guard was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time. Police said the vest may have saved his life. The security guard was taken to a local hospital, where he was last reported to be in stable condition. While there, police encountered a 17-year old male who had also been injured in the shooting. He’d been brought to the hospital by private vehicle. The 17-year old had been shot in the arm.
Police reported finding 40-shell casings at the scene. Police allege that the motive for the shooting may have been robbery.
No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made at this time.
