28-year old Brianna Gibbs was been charged with murder, just a few hours after she allegedly opened fire on 27-year old, Tyrone Pittman A.K.A Johnny May Cash. Pittman was killed as a result of the shooting.
According to a report from the CHICAGO SUN TIMES, the incident began at some point in the early morning hours of Sunday. Police were called to Pittman’s home in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood at around 2:20 a.m. The report did not disclose what police were initially called for, but Gibbs nor Pittman were at the home when cops arrived at the scene.
Police later discovered that Gibbs and Pittman, who is the brother of record producer Young Chop, had been in a heated argument that allegedly turned physical, before police were called. Gibbs later told police that she shot Pittman because she feared for her life. Gibbs said Pittman had pulled a “chunk” of hair out of her head during the couples’ fight. During the fight Pittman’s gun fell from his waist and was picked up by Gibbs, according to statements Gibbs made to police. Gibbs said she ran to the porch after picking up Pittman’s gun. Gibbs told police, when she was out on the front porch, she then told Pittman to bring her phone to her from inside. Gibbs told police that she decided that if he “came out aggressively at her” she was going to shoot.
Detectives say Gibbs fired several shots at Pittman as he approached the porch. Pittman fell back into the doorway after being shot. Gibbs reportedly grabbed her phone from Pittman at that point, then fired one more shot as she retreated down the front steps. The pair were not there when police arrived a short time later, because Pittman had already been transported to the hospital. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the thigh. He died a short time later from his injuries.
In a preliminary bail hearing last week, Gibbs’ attorneys showed the judge Youtube videos that appeared to show Pittman in various stages of violence against Gibbs in the past. It helped to convince the judge to grant Gibbs a $100,000 bond. No word on if Gibbs bond has been paid, but she is scheduled to return to court on May 9th.
