Police say a mass shooting near the Broad & Olney Transportation Center last year was the result of a hired hit carried out in broad daylight. A September report from 6 ABC ACTION NEWS, said the shooting happened on Broad Street near Chew Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday Feb 24, 2021.
The shooting reportedly left 8 people injured and 26-year old, Steven Jones, dead. Police said Jones was standing on a crowded sidewalk, when a shooter opened fire. Six of the eight people injured were hospitalized to be treated for gunshot wounds.
28-year old Vanessa Singletary-Selby was arrested on Feb. 20. She was alleged to be one of at least three co-conspirators involved in the shooting. Mrs. Singletary-Selby was charged with homicide and conspiracy. She was denied bail.
Police said Singletary-Selby allegedly ordered a hit in retaliation for a “dispute” with one of the victims of the broad-daylight shooting. That victim was wounded and sent to the hospital. That person was not Mr. Jones, who died in the shooting.
The identity of the shooter remains unknown. Singletary-Selby is reportedly refusing to cooperate with authorities to help identify the gunman, at this time. Her lawyer says she has not entered a plea in the case yet.
