Police were investigating an attempted robbery that ended in the death of one of the alleged suspects, left one man hospitalized, and led to the search for a third man who was involved in the robbery attempt. According to a report from 6 ABC ACTION NEWS, officers were called to the smoke shop on the 5300 block of 5th Street at around 1 a.m. in Olney for a call of a shooting.

On arrival, police found two spent shell casings and some blood, but no shooting victim(s). Police interviewed employees of the shop next. They said there was a robbery. They also gave a description of the suspect.

While investigating that robbery/shooting at the smoke shop, police got another call of a shooting in the area. At that scene, a man was found shot to death inside of a Toyota. This was on the 400 block of Olney Avenue, just two blocks from the first crime scene at the smoke shop. Police reported finding the car parked “crooked” with its doors open. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they believe the second shooting and the red Toyota, that was reported stolen last week, may all connected to the robbery at the smoke shop that police were investigating when the second shooting started.

“We believe while that robbery is taking place, someone fired shots striking the perpetrator who is the male inside the Toyota who was pronounced dead. At this point, we believe there was a robbery inside of the smoke shop – possibly the tables were turned on the robber.”

Said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector, Scott Small. Both incident are still being investigated. Police said they have surveillance video of the entire incident.
