Philadelphia Police said a carjacking quickly turned into a kidnapping and nightmare for a family of five last night. CBS-3 PHILLY reported that the incident happened on the 2700 block of Warnock Street in North Philly, at around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night.
Police say the father of the carjacked family, was called to an address on the block for a delivery. When he got out of the minivan, he realized there was no delivery at the address…..and that someone was driving off in his car. Police said they believe the father was set-up by someone.
A 17-year old jumped into the vehicle and took off, with the driver’s girlfriend and three young children (6-year girl, 2-boys aged 8 & 2). Police say that the girlfriend put up a fight. She punched the teen in the face and jumped out of the vehicle, suffering a foot injury in the process. After driving for about a block, the teen let the 8-year old boy out of the vehicle. The 6-year old and 2-year old were in the back seat sleeping.
The father had immediately called the police back at the original scene of the jacking. Policed helicopters and patrol vehicles tracked the vehicle down about a block away from where the 8-year old was let out of the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody. Police found a semi-automatic weapon on the teen when he was searched.
None of the kids were physically injured during the ordeal. The 17-year old was arrested and charged with carjacking, kidnapping, and a host of other charges.
