ONE JUVENILE DEAD AND ANOTHER IN CUSTODY AFTER ALLEGEDLY FIRING AT COPS IN SOUTH PHILLY

Philadelphia Police say one teenager was killed and another was arrested, after a shooting in which plainclothes officers returned fire after allegedly being fired upon in South Philadelphia last night. According to a 6 ABC ACTION NEWS report, the incident happened in the area of 18th & Barbara Streets at around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Police reported that four task force officers were in the area conducting surveillance in an unmarked vehicle. Police did not go into detail about what the officers were investigating. Police went on to say, the officers spotted two juvenile males on bicycles. According to the reporting officers, one of the teens were armed with a gun.

Police said they turned on their emergency lights as they prepared to pursue the teens, and that was when one of the teens allegedly turned, and fired on the police officers. Police said the bullet struck the rear window of their vehicle, nearly striking one of the officers. At that point, police say the officers exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots as they returned fire. Police say they then pursued the suspects on foot. As the chase entered the 1800 block of Barbara Street, police say one of the teens was shot in the chest. Officers reportedly picked up the teen and rushed him to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was officially pronounced deceased shortly after 7:30 p.m. on March 1st, 2022.

The other juvenile, 17-years of age, was taken into police custody, and then released without charges, pending further investigation, according to police. The officers involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative duty, pending the outcome of the investigation.
