Akubu is accused of participating in the murder of George Briscella, who was murdered on Feb. 8th, at 2118 Afton Street in Northeast Philly. Smith is also accused in the death of another man on the 8100 block of Grovers Avenue in Southwest Philly, 4-days after the murder of George Briscilla’s. Akubu was also charged in another carjacking on the 8400 block of Lyons Avenue.

Philadelphia Homicide Captain, Jason Smith, said they traced a jacked, silver Toyota back to Akubu. Smith said that trace helped them link Smith to Briscella’s murder. Police say Akubu is accused of being the leader of a gang of carjackers who specifically target Toyota cars and trucks. Police did not go on to say why they believe the gang targets Toyotas.
