Philadelphia Police say a teenage carjacking suspect drew his weapon on police officers who were attempting to arrest him, causing an officer to fire a shot at the teen suspect. 6 ABC ACTION NEWS reported, that the incident began when police located a vehicle that had been taken at gunpoint in a carjacking on Whitaker Avenue on Tuesday.
It was around 4:30 p.m. when police spotted the car on Reed Street in South Philly. The suspected carjacker was standing next to the vehicle. Police say the suspect took off running, when he spotted the patrol car headed his way. Police say he took off running west on Reed Street, then south on Broad Street, and finally turning on Dickinson Street. It was at that point the suspect ran into two approaching plainclothes officers. One of them attempted to apprehend the suspect. The suspect brandished his weapon. The officer pulled out his weapon and shot at the suspect. He missed, but the police were able to wrestle the suspect’s weapon away from him in the commotion that followed the gunshot. The 17-year old was taken into custody. No injuries were reported in the incident.
