Police in the Northern area of Niger say they have seized more than 200 kilos of cocaine that was being transported in the local mayor’s truck on Monday. According to a report from REUTERS, that 200 kilos was worth around $8.7 million.

The mayor and his driver were arrested as they were traveling with 199 kilos of cocaine in the truck with them. They were reportedly stopped at a checkpoint as they were heading north, out of the trading hub of Agadez. Niger’s Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) confirmed the seizure of 199 kilos of cocaine, but did not give any further details.
