Police say a U.S. Congresswoman was carjacked on Wednesday afternoon. A report from 6 ABC ACTION NEWS said, the carjacking happened at around 2:45 p.m., on the 1900 block of Patterson Avenue in FDR Park. Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon was reportedly carjacked after a tour of the park, which included other members of Congress.

The Congresswoman’s car was found near the Christiana Mall, in Newark, Delaware, the same night according to Delaware State Police. Five occupants were inside of the vehicle when State Police located it near the mall. The five occupants were taken into police custody around 9 p.m. Police say the vehicle was located in the parking lot of the Edge Fitness Club, located on the 2800 block of Fashion Center Boulevard.
Police don’t know the exact involvement of each of the occupants of the car yet. Scanlon and a staffer were reportedly walking to her parked car when they were approached by two armed me in a dark colored SUV. The men allegedly demanded the keys to her car. The jackers took off in the Congresswoman’s blue 2017 Acura MDX. Scanlon’s cellphone, identification, and purse were inside of the vehicle. Scanlon and her staffer were both uninjured.
