MAN GETS 28-YEARS IN PRISON FOR LEAVING DAUGHTER IN BURNING CAR DURING POLICE CHASE

SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA

Imhotep O. Norman who was accused of leaving his 19-month old daughter in a burning car during a police chase, was sentenced to 28-years in prison on Wednesday, after pleading guilty to the charges, NBC NEWS reported.

19-MONTH OLD, XENA NORMAN

Norman was reportedly noticed by officers as he drove by them in April of 2019. Police say they attempted to stop Norman for speeding. Police reported seeing flames and clouds of marijuana smoke coming from the car. Police say Norman then drove over the median of Highway 14 near Interstate 85. Troopers forced him into the right lane as they attempted to box the fleeing vehicle in. Norman jumped from the moving car, and allegedly tossed a backpack that was later recovered. Police say the bag contained (unspecified) “illegal drugs.”

Firefighters found the body of 19-month old Xena Norman, after extinguishing the burning vehicle. Norman was arrested hours later in the woods. When asked why he left his child to die, Norman said ‘he thought the pursuing police officers would save her.’
