TOKYO, JAPAN
Olympic Organizers have decided against allowing spectators at the Tokyo Games. The decision by the Olympic Panel came after Japan’s Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga declared a state of emergency in Tokyo.

A report from The Guardian said Prime Minister Suga said it was essential to prevent Tokyo from becoming the source of another wave of infections, especially with the new Delta Covid-19 variant spreading.

The news of the spectator ban was confirmed by the Olympic Minister, Tamayo Marukawa, after talks between the Olympic Organizers, the government, and Olympic and Paralympic representatives. Marukawa did leave open the option that they may have spectators at venues outside of Tokyo. Nothing has been made final as of yet.
