On Thursday, Pennsylvania Department Of Labor & Industry Acting Secretary, Jennifer Berrier announced that the department’s new unemployment compensation system will launch on June 8th of this year (2021).

NBC Affiliate, WGAL -8 (@WGAL) reported, that the new system will replace the old one which is over 40-years old, and obsolete. The new system is expected to make it faster and simpler for Pennsylvanian’s to file claims. Berrier claimed that the new system will have a different look and feel than the current system. It will allegedly also provide access to more information and self-serve options. With these changes, Berrier hopes the need for claimants to contact the UC service center will be heavily reduced.

Knowing the Unemployment system in Pennsylvania, this will turn out the opposite of what they expect. In my experience dealing with any P.A State Benefits of any sort, “the system” always seems to be moving slowly. In my opinion, this is done purposely. Likely to deter people who really need assistance from getting it. Who knows? But hopefully, this new unemployment system in P.A will be an improvement over the current one which seems to go down whenever more than a few claimants are trying to file at the same time. I will try to be positive, but honestly, I have very low expectations for anything having to do with the state of Pennsylvania and benefits or help the poor and needy folks.
