17-year old Graham Ivan Clark was the “mastermind” who carried out the hacking of several prominent Twitter accounts in Mid-July. The “Bit-Con” hack was designed to steal money from Americans all across the country. Instead of a huge pay-day, the 17-year old is now looking at, at least 30 state felony charges, and federal charges may also still be pending on top of that.
NBC News (@nbcnews) reported, Clark was arrested Friday morning following investigations by the FBI, IRS, Secret Service, and the Florida Department Of Law Enforcement. Under Florida law, minors can be charged as adults for financial crimes.
The hacks targeted former President of The United States, Barak Obama, current presidential candidate, Joe Biden, Kanye West, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk. Messages coming from the targeted accounts promised people that if they deposited bitcoin in a certain place, their money would be doubled. Authorities say several hundred or thousands of people reportedly responded, sending in hundreds of thousands of dollars.
