DELHI, INDIA     5/29/2020     10:45am(est)

A gang of monkeys attacked a laboratory assistant and escaped with a batch of Coronavirus blood test samples. According to reports from Sky News (@skynews).

The assault took place near Meerut Medical College in Delhi, India. Local media said the animals then snatched Covid-19 blood test samples that had been taken from three patients and fled. One of the monkeys was later spotted in a tree chewing one of the sample collection kits. According to Sky News, the stolen test samples from the patients had to be taken again.

This is far from the first incident of a monkey revolt in India during the Coronavirus lockdown. The lockdown appears to have emboldened the monkeys. Reports have shown them congregating in parts of Delhi that would normally be crowded with humans. Monkeys have adapted to living in close proximity to humans and having daily contact with humans. Some experts believe the monkeys are struggling with the lack of humans around to supply the food the monkeys had come to rely on. People have been advised not to feed the monkeys while the pandemic continues, with experts suggesting doing so could cause the virus to mutate and infect other monkeys and animals.

Reports had previously surfaced of monkeys causing chaos in India, snatching food and mobile devices, breaking into homes, and terrorizing people around the Indian Capital of Delhi.
