Former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie Debartolo Jr. received a pardon from the president on Tuesday for his part in a 1998 corruption case.

The New York Times (@nytimes) reported, Kerik was convicted of tax fraud and lying to the government. Milken, who was known as the “junk bond king” back in the 80’s, was convicted for securities fraud. Debatolo pleaded guilty in 1988 to concealing an extortion attempt. Debartolo was fined $1 million for his crimes and suspended by the NFL for one year. He later handed over the 49ers team to his sister Debbie.

The Debartolo announcement was made at the White House with former players and friends of Debartolo attending, including Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Jim Brown, and Charles Haley. Rice spoke at the announcement saying:
“Eddie was like that 12th man that was on that football field. You know that this guy, you know, he wanted us to win. And I think he’s the main reason why we won so many Super Bowls. So today is a great day for him. I’m glad to be here and be a part of that.”
