JEFFERSON CITY, MO
Missouri Governor Eric Greitins announced today that he would resign from office. Greitins’ time in office has been riddled with scandals. From accusations of sexual misconduct to accusations of misusing a charity donor list. Greitins’ tenure as Governor has been filled with scandals. Greitins criticized the multiple scandals he found himself entangled in as “tabloid trash gossip.” Grietins will resign from office, but he refuses to admit to any wrongdoing.
CNN (@cnn) reports, during a press conference where he announced his resignation, Greitins said that while he is not perfect, he has not broken any laws, nor committed any offense worthy of this treatment.
“This ordeal has been designed to cause an incredible amount of strain on my family. Millions of dollars of mounting legal bills, endless personal attacks designed to cause maximum damage to family and friends. Legal harassment of colleagues, friends, and campaign workers and it’s clear that for the forces that oppose us, there is no end in sight. I cannot allow those forces to continue to cause pain and difficulty to the people that I love.” Greitins said during the press conference.
Greitens said his resignation will go into effect at 5pm on Friday. A Missouri State House Committee released a report last month alleging, Greitins subjected a woman to non-consensual sexual activity and violence. In late April, Greitins was indicted on a felony charge of computer tampering tied to his campaign’s alleged use of a charity donor list.
