Rap has sure come a long way from its humble beginnings, hasn’t it? Around 40 years after its inception in the late 70’s, the music genre which the “disco” generation called a fad, is still going strong, breaking records, and shattering all barriers and boundaries. The latest effort from the rap genre…a Pulitzer Prize by one, Mr. Kendrick Lamar.
CNN (@cnn) reports, Kendrick’s album “DAMN” was announced as the recipient of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize on Monday, a history making first for a rap artist, as the music award is typically given to Classical or Jazz works.
“DAMN” is Kendrick’s fourth studio album and was released in April 2017. DAMN won best album at the Grammy Awards in January. Kendrick’s song “Humble” also won best rap performance, best rap song, and best music video at the Grammys. Congratulations K-Dot….
