Starting in 2019 the Cleveland Indians will have a new look. Not sure if their baseball team will change, but the team is planning to make a change to its logo beginning in 2019. A move that was already causing a stir in the baseball world before it was even made official. Now that the change is official, the debate is sure to rage on…..from  both sides of the debate.

 

 

 

The New York Times (@nytimes) reports, Chief Wahoo, a cartoonish caricature of a Native American that has assumed several forms over the years, first appeared on the Indians’ uniform in 1948. In recent times, many groups have made appeals to the team to have the image removed from the Indians logo. A request that had been shot down every time over past years. But, during the past year, Rob Manfred, baseball’s commissioner, has pressured Cleveland Indians Chief Executive, Paul Dolan to make a change.

 

 

 

“The Cleveland Indians ultimately agreed with my position that the logo is no longer appropriate for on-field use in Major League Baseball, and I appreciate Mr. Dolan’s acknowledgement that removing it from the on-field uniform by the start of the 2019 season is the right course.” Manfred said in a statement provided to the New York Times.
