James Alex Fields, the man accused of mowing down a crowd of protesters with his car in Charlottesville over the summer, has seen his second degree murder charge upgraded to 1st degree murder.
22 year-old Heather Heyer was killed when Fields drove his car into a crowd of people who were peacefully protesting against a neo-nazi rally that took place in Charlottesville. Fields also faces charges of malicious wounding, felonious assault, and a host of other charges in the August 12th attack that injured dozens of people and also caused the death of Heather Heyer. Fields, who has been in custody since the day of the Charlottesville assaults, was ordered back to jail after the preliminary hearing. No word yet on when Fields’ trial will begin.
